REINFORCING THE KENNEL UP COMMAND WITH THE E-COLLAR

Looking back to the previous lesson I discussed how to teach the kennel up command with the leash and choke chain, next I will discuss how to reinforce this command with the e-collar.

As with any new lesson it is important to step back to a previously taught and understood lesson to remind your dog what command you want him to do.

Remember that you dont teach a new lesson with the e-collar, but rather you reinforce a allready learned lesson that was taught with a leash and choke chain.

This step involves the use of the e-collar in conjunction with the leash and chain. As in my previous lesson you should remind the dog how to enter his crate to loosen the chain( to release the pressure).

after he is sucessfully compleating the task you will apply a low level( usually level #1) constant stimuli from the e-collar at the same time that you apply constant chain pressure. when the dog enteres the crate. release the chain pressure at the same time that you release the button on the e-collar.

Keep the dog in the crate for a moment then command him to come out. praise him.( pause briefly so he can think about this lesson,) and repeat. your goal is to have the dog enter the crate quickly from a distance of about ten feet to turn off the stimuli from the e-collar.

As with any new lesson. take your time. only do 3 to 5 repitions over a couple of minutes then give your dog some happy time. Keep repeating this lesson a couple of times a day, every day, until you reach your goal. If your dog enteres his crate on command from about ten feet or so to turn off the collar, give him a FREEBIE once in a while to see if he will complete this task with out you having to use the chain or the e-collar.

When your dog learns how to Avoid the corrections from the e-collar you are on your way to conditioning your dog that he must comply to the command words that you have given him in order to avoid corrections for misbehavior. and non compliance.

Collar conditioning your dog may take more or less time than any other dog. if this is somthing you cant handle. Give me a call and I can help you.
