SIT AND STAY WITH THE E-COLLAR

In the previous article I discussed how to teach your dog to sit and stay on a place board. Next I will discuss how to reinforce the stay command with the e-collar.

As in your earlier lesson you should go back and review with your dog how to walk onto the platform, sit down , and stay in place while you walk around him.

The next step is to secure the e-collar around the dogs neck with the choke chain and leash also attached. Walk the dog onto the platform command him to sit as you lift straight up with the leash at the same time that you apply a low level constant stimuli from the e-collar. when the dog sits, release the leash pressure and the e-collar stimuli immediatly. If the dog stands up or steps off the board apply leash and e-collar pressure at the same time immediatly . when the dog sits down, release the leash and e-collar pressure. command him to stay for a few moments and as long as he stays in place no corrections are needed. only correct him if he stands up or steps off the board .

after the dog has stayed in place for a while. command him to come to you ( you may have to help him with the leash) then praise him for comming to you. repeat this lesson a few times in a row and a couple of times a day for a week or so untill he gets the idea. your goal is to have your dog walk onto the platform, sit down , and stay in place as you walk away from him. if he stands up, or steps off the platform, correct him with the e-collar and put him back in place on the board. if level #1 is not working you can move to level # 1 1/2 or # 2.

As your dog progresses, you should be able to make him sit and stay with out any corrections while you tug lightly on his leash. he should come to you when called, otherwise he needs to stay put untill you command him to get up and move about.

As with all lessons. Take your time, go slow untill your dog knows exactly what you want him to do.
